Causing thousands of deaths a year, opiates have been named a nationwide epidemic. Salt Lake City is ranked number seven for the state with the most overdoses. Seeing six Utahans die a day can start to take a toll on a state and a country.

In Utah, doctors have started to prescribe a few pills at a time, meant to last for a few days. The idea is to then have the patient them come back to check in on their progress. This prevents the dependency that forms from being prescribed 30 pills at a time.
