The BTK Killer’s Murders
On February 25, 2005, the police arrested Dennis Rader, a man responsible for killing ten people in Kansas between 1974 and 1991. The first of Rader’s victims were the four members of the Otero family in Wichita. The family’s three older children discovered the bodies of Joseph and Julie Otero alongside their children Joseph and Josephine. The authorities found a detailed note he wrote describing how he killed the family.
In 1997, Rader killed Kathryn Bright, Nancy Fox, and Shirley Vian Relford. He sent a letter to KAKE, a television in Wichita, claiming responsibility for the murders. He would strike again eight years later with the murder of Marine Hedge, a 53-year-old woman he hid in Christ Lutheran Church, where he was council president. Rader then killed Vicki Wegerle in 1986 and Dolores E. Davis in 1991.
Rader’s murders followed a similar pattern. After strangulating his victims, he tied them and photographed their bodies in various bondage positions for his sexual fantasies. This is in line with Robert Mendoza’s evaluation, who diagnosed Rader with antisocial, narcissistic, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorders.
