Winter can be a beautiful time of the year, but it can also be dangerous for drivers. If you are not careful, a simple snowstorm or icy road can lead to an accident—and even worse, an injury or death.

What It Is Like To Drive In Snow

Driving in the snow is challenging, especially if you are new to driving in snowy conditions. It takes a lot of practice, but we have some tips to help you stay safe on the road.

Robert J. DeBry & Associates is a law firm specializing in personal injury cases, including car accidents caused by slippery roads and other weather-related issues. If you have gotten involved in an accident, contact us today for a car accident lawyer!

Tips For Staying Safe When Driving in Snow.

If you are looking to stay safe this winter, here are some tips:

  1. Slow down. Snowfall makes roads slippery and dangerous for drivers. You should always drive slower to remain in control of your vehicle.
  2. Keep your distance from other vehicles. Driving in bad weather always creates a risk of hydroplaning—when your tires lose contact with the road’s surface and slip on top of the water.
  3. Avoid sudden movements at all costs! Whether it is braking or accelerating, any sudden movement could cause your car to slide and flip over onto its side (or worse).
  4. Ensure your tires are correctly inflated and have enough tread to avoid skidding off the pavement.
  5. Make sure your windshield wipers are working correctly.
  6. Check your tires for wear or damage and get them replaced.
  7. Remember that other drivers might not be able to see you or know what their cars are doing—so be extra cautious when approaching blind curves or intersections.
  8. Use snow tires! Snow tires are specifically made for winter driving conditions and provide much better traction than regular tires.
  9. Be aware of your surroundings. If you see an accident ahead and there is no room to maneuver around it, do not try! Instead, slow down as much as possible and plan an alternate safe route for all vehicles involved.
