Andrei Chikatilo is a name that casts a shadow of fear on Russians and modern wrongful death lawyers like those from Robert J. Debry & Associates. Chikatilo was a Russian serial killer called “The Butcher of Rostov” or “The Rostov Ripper.” Between 1978 and 1990, he murdered and mutilated around 52 children and women. The story of Chikatilo is scary owing to the level of pain he inflicted on his victims. His main targets were children and middle age women who would fall for his traps. He would lure them with promises of money, toys, and candies. He would drag them into the forest, tie them up and rape them before stabbing them to death.

Murders

In September 1978, Andrei Chikatilo committed his first known murder. It involved a nine-year-old girl called Yelena Zakotnova. Andrei lured the young girl to an old hut he had purchased earlier. When Andrei’s attempt to rape Yelena failed, he stabbed her severally in her abdomen while fondling and deriving sexual pleasure from her dying body. Chikatilo confessed that he further strangled the girl and threw her in Grushevka River, where detectives found her body two days later. The evidence would convince any wrongful death lawyer that Chikatilo killed the young girl.

However, to the amazement of Russians, Chikatilo’s quest for blood didn’t end with Yelena Zakotnova. On September 1981, he confessed to killing a young Larisa Tkachenko. Larisa had just exited the library in Rostov, and while standing at a bus stop, Chikatilo lured her. He enticed the young student with the claim that they would relax and drink vodka in a forest close to the Don River. Midway, Chikatilo threw her to the ground and tore her clothes off. He attempted to rape her but owing to the girl’s screams, he had to prioritize stuffing mud in her mouth. Chikatilo battered and strangled her to death, and since he didn’t have a knife, he resorted to mutilating her with his teeth.

Still Puzzling

Chikatilo’s story is still a puzzle to many wrongful death lawyers and attorneys. His undying quest for blood and horrible methods of his murder is scary. Following numerous murders and subsequent cases from wrongful death lawyers tied to him, the Supreme Court sentenced him to death in 1994.
