Gein claimed to have uncovered corpses of recently deceased ladies reminiscent of his mother. Gein’s residence contained the remains of ten people, but only two murders were finally connected to him.
Conviction
The “Butcher of Plainfield” was taken into custody during a police visit to Ed Gein’s home. Gein was taken to the Central State Hospital for the Criminally Insane after being deemed mentally incompetent to face trial and given a schizophrenia diagnosis there. Gein was found competent to face problems in 1968 and guilty of killing Bernice Worden. He was never put on trial for the murder of Mary Hogan.
