A car emergency kit is a difference between getting home safely or getting stranded for hours. Millions of people will experience issues with their cars each year, and being prepared for the worst-case scenario is the key. While there are standard kits you can buy, these won’t include many keys items you will need, and it’s a good idea to add in a few extras.

In general, below is a list of the bare minimum supplies you should have in your car’s emergency kit and will get you through basic scenarios. Some of these items will ensure that you stay safe while you’re stuck on the road. If you are injured in a car accident while you’re stranded, be sure to contact a personal injury attorney!

  •  Flashlight and extra batteries
  •  Jumper cables in case your battery dies
  •  First aid kit including bandaid’s, gauze pads, antiseptic wipes, medical wrap
  •  Bottled water
  •  Multi-tool, such as a Swiss army knife
  •  Reflective warning triangles or road flares
  •  Windshield cleaner

If you live in a country that experiences cold and brutal winters, you’ll need to include some extra items in your kit. If you have a family, be sure to throw in a few different pairs of the below.

  •  A blanket, hat, and gloves
  •  Ice scraper and snow brush
  •  Bag of sand to help with traction in snow and ice
  •  A foldable snow shovel in case you need to dig yourself out
  •  For longer trips, a sleep

All of these items were recommended by the trustworthy Old Farmer’s Almanac and multiple other sources, including government websites. If you get hurt in a car accident and need a personal injury attorney, be sure to call RJD & Associates today!
