Everyone loves going on vacations. They’re a nice time to relax and take a break from normal life or adventure and explore new places.

No one should ever have to worry about a wrongful death incident while abroad. In addition, no lawyer wants to get a call that you or someone you love has been in a fatal accident. That’s exactly what happened to Bakari Henderson, a 22-year-old University of Arizona graduate.

The Events

The American tourist, Bakari Henderson, was traveling abroad for the summer in Europe when he was brutally beaten to death by a group of about 10 to 15 Serbian men.

The fight escalated after Henderson asked to take a selfie with a Serbian waitress at the bar. Henderson was began running outside and the group of men chased him down and fatally beat him within a span of 30 seconds. His friends tried to perform CPR as they called to take him to the hospital, but he died due to extreme trauma to the head. The men, ages ranging from 18 to 33, left Henderson lying on the ground after throwing him against the hood of a car then kicking and punching his head and his body.

How to Stay Safe While Traveling Abroad

Unfortunately, the death of tourists traveling abroad happens much too often. In order to avoid having to call a lawyer or attorney for a wrongful death, there are things you can do to stay safe while traveling abroad.

Always Be Ready

Being prepared is the number one way to make sure you stay safe while abroad. Knowing what can happen and how to avoid incidents ensures not only your safety but also your experience traveling.

Nightlife Tips

If you decide to go out to enjoy the nightlife, use the same precautions you would use in your hometown. Never leave your drinks unattended, and never take a drink from someone you don’t know. While out drinking, don’t draw any unwanted attention to yourself. Just stay under the radar and mind your own business. In addition, don’t ever walk alone – always take a taxi.

Don’t Be Flashy

As much as you might want to use your super nice and expensive camera, you should think before you openly carry it around in public. It shows you are an easy target who might have more on you than just a nice camera.

Personal injury or wrongful death is not how you want to end your vacation. However, if you do run into an unfortunate event, call Robert J. DeBry & Associates for help from Farmington to St. George to talk to a skilled attorney.
