When you get your driver’s license you’re warned about how to avoid an auto accident. Distracted driving, drunk driving and unsafe road conditions are all common causes of car accidents that we, as drivers, are taught to prepare for.
We can only prepare for each of these events so much, but there are incidents that drivers never expect to happen and result in hiring a lawyer. One of these being a plane crash on the road. That’s exactly what happened about a week ago on I-15 in Salt Lake City.
The Events of July 26
Shortly before 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, a small plane crashed down on I-15 in Riverdale, killing two Weber County couples. The Beech A36 Bonanza plane took off in the Odgen airport and was heading to Idaho so the couples could vacation. The plane, however, only made it about a half-mile (45 seconds) out of the airport before it crashed for uncertain reasons.
According to some witnesses, the plane came out of nowhere and nose-dived into the middle of the freeway.
Plane vs. Car
Fortunately — and luckily — the plane didn’t hit any cars or cause an auto accident on the freeway. The drivers near the scene immediately pulled over and called 911–and luckily not an attorney. The interstate in both directions was shut down for an extended amount of time, causing a great deal of trouble and a significant delay for a lot of Utah travelers.
With I-15 being one of the most heavily traveled interstate in Utah, it’s nothing short of a miracle that the plane missed hitting cars when it went down.
Be Prepared
Of course no one tells you what to do in the case of a plane crash while you’re on the road, but that doesn’t mean an event such as this doesn’t happen. In the case of an auto accident combined with a plane crash, call Robert J. DeBry & Associates to talk to our skilled professionals and get the help you need.
