In our most recent installment of Robert J. DeBry’s Word on the Street, we spoke with Sergeant Todd Royce of the Utah Highway Patrol about the legal repercussions of texting and driving.

In the state of Utah, texting and driving is a primary enforcement law — meaning that any driver from Provo to St. George can be pulled over for texting and driving, even if the driver is not committing any other traffic infractions at the time. According to Sgt. Royce, the law in Utah changed a couple of years ago to include all cell phone use while driving — not just texting.

So if you want to avoid an auto accident and a call to your local lawyer, keep the phone out of sight while you’re on the road.
