If you’ve flipped on the news in the past couple of days, be it in St. George, Utah or elsewhere, odds are high that you’ve seen the Volkswagen name pop up a time or two. Unfortunately for all fans of the German car brand, the headlines haven’t been positive.
You guessed it—once again, yet another major vehicle manufacturer is facing a widespread auto recall debacle. That said, there’s no need to fret or hire a lawyer. Simply put, your Volkswagen is perfectly safe to drive without fear of an auto accident, because this specific auto recall deals with something a bit more irregular. The issue, in fact, is an environmental matter.
Depending on the state in which you live, each and every year, motorists are made to go through an emissions testing process. Apparently, Volkswagen purposefully installed a device in their more popular diesel car models that can actually detect when an emissions test is being performed.
When such a situation arises, emissions controls are turned on. However, when a test isn’t being performed, emissions controls are left off. This is rumored to help certain vehicles run more efficiently, be it in St. George or in some other extreme environment.
Clearly illegal and requiring the skill of an accomplished lawyer, the Environmental Protection Agency [EPA] has asked that Volkswagen fix the situation in a timely manner. Seeing as how there’s no real threat to motorists of an auto accident, Volkswagen estimates that it will need close to a year to recall and repair all affected diesel vehicles. Said vehicles are as follows:
- Beetle, 2009 – 2015
- Golf, 2009 – 2015
- Audi, 2009 – 2015
- Passat, 2014 – 2015
- Jetta, 2009 – 2015
