From Salt Lake City to the most remote of cities out on the East Coast, with so many different automotive options available to the common car shopper, it can be difficult to know what to do. While make and model are obviously important, vehicle size is also something worth taking into consideration.

Though larger vehicles tend to not be as fuel efficient, smaller vehicles are seen as dangerous, due to their size. Truthfully, as far as the latter is concerned, it’s for this very reason that many consumers—and a lawyer or two, for that matter—shy away from smaller vehicles. With that in mind, just how safe are small cars?

Fortunately for us, the results of any and all government auto accident tests are made readily available on the Internet. By way of a quick comparison, it’s easy to determine which of all vehicle sizes is best for families.

Take the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), for example. Each test the aforementioned agency conducts examines four crash types: front-impact, side-impact and rollover rates.

Reportedly, according to AutoTrader.com, “The tiny Honda Fit, for instance, earns four overall stars—the same rating as the large Ford Expedition. And the subcompact Chevrolet Sonic’s 5-star rating actually trumps crash-test scores for Chevrolet’s large Suburban SUV, which attained only four stars.”

Furthermore, unbeknownst to many, smaller vehicles actually run a lower risk of rolling over in the event of an auto accident. While the height of smaller vehicles causes concern here in Salt Lake City and elsewhere, generally speaking, airbags and crumple zones are able to compensate. However, if anything unjust ever does arise, never hesitate to speak with an experienced personal injury lawyer.
