Recalls are the byproduct of manufacturer mistakes and blotches. These product blunders can range in severity when it comes to public safety hazards but should always be treated with the same amount of seriousness. From vehicles to food items, recalls happen annually, and if these recalls don’t happen quick enough, companies can face serious legal action from someone’s personal injury lawyer in the event that the consumer is injured, falls ill, or is killed.
Unfortunately for consumers and companies alike, a lot of these product defects can go unnoticed until someone falls victim to them, and today, we’re going to cover some of the largest product recalls of 2018.
BMW Multi-Series Recall
In April of this past year, BMW recalled 36,410 of their petrol-fueled vehicles due to a problem with the connection between the battery and fuse box. This was a serious issue for four different BMW models that were manufactured between March 2007 and August 2011; the models affected were the 1 and 3 series, the Z4, and the X1 model.
The connection between the cable and the fuse box would degrade over time due to extreme heat and cause the engine to cut out. If this were to happen at any time during use, the sudden “death” of the vehicle could lead to a serious car accident and the involvement of a car accident lawyer.
Creatology Pottery Wheel Kit Recall
Creatology’s pottery wheel kits recalled 263,000 units on May 17th of 2018 due to a serious hazard that put children across the nation at risk. The battery compartment in the kits also overheated and lead to many fire and burn hazards. Incidents of this nature would require the assistance of a personal injury lawyer, but luckily the recall was caught early enough to avoid a serious problem; only two incidents occurred with the product.
Honey Smacks Cereal Recall
Back in June of 2018, Honey Smacks cereal was taken off the shelve as 130 people across 36 states fell ill to salmonella. The Center for Disease and Control tweeted a warning on the 12th of June, stating that “even if some of the cereal has been eaten and no one got sick, throw the rest of it away or return it for a refund.”
Food-borne illnesses can lead to fatal consequences, so it’s best to get medical attention immediately if you’ve fallen victim to an outbreak. Another important step to take is to make sure you hire a personal injury lawyer so that you can get the compensation that you deserve for extensive medical bills, damages and lost wages.
Fiat/Chrysler Massive Recall
Another vehicle recall saw 4.8 million models being sent back to the manufacturers in what was one of the largest recalls of 2018. It was discovered that a malfunction could prevent Fiat and Chrysler drivers from turning off cruise control after it had been activated, posing a great threat to drivers on major highways.
Product recalls are not to be taken lightly. If you own or use a product that has been called for a recall, you need to do so as soon as possible. However, if you have been injured due to a company’s negligence in providing you with a safe product, contact a personal injury lawyer at Robert J. DeBry and Associates.
