The Dangers of Misusing Opioids

Throughout the nation, drug injury or death from opioids has become a problem. But in Utah, it has become an epidemic.

From the metropolis of Salt Lake City to the small truck stop towns along the I-15, an average of 24 Utahans die from prescription drug overdoses every month. Utah is ranked 4th in the U.S. for prescription drug deaths, and more people die from drug overdoses in Utah than from firearms and motor vehicle crashes combined.

The catalyst for Utah’s high drug injury rate comes from the misuse of prescription opioids. More people die from prescription opioids than people who die from heroin and cocaine combined.
